Week 7
What did you learn this week?
This week I learned about DNA and RNA. RNA create small copies of parts of the DNA strands that are used to make proteins. Within these strands, there are four nucleotide base pairs that are created. these include guanine, which is always connected to cytosine, and adenine which is always connected to thymine.
Are you able to relate what you already learned to what you already knew?
In my high school biology class, we did a unit about creating our own babies, similar to what we did in lab this week. I think this is a great way to explain dominate trait decisions. It was a very fun activity, that made learning not feel like learning which was awesome!
(Here is Bailie and I's baby!!)
How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
One thing that I will definitely use in my future teaching is making the candy DNA model. This activity was a very engaging learning experience, as it helped to take some of the information we had learned prior and put it into an example. I though this was a great visualization tool when looking at how DNA looks. It was also very beneficial to connect the different pairs to each other.
Hi Hanna!
ReplyDeleteI really like your explanation/summary of DNA and RNA, I find it very helpful to have it summarized like that. I also agree with you that the candy DNA model would be great to use in our future classroom because it involves candy but it also is educational.
Hi Hanna! I really like your pictures and your baby you had created! I also think that the activities we did will be a great thing to add into out future classrooms! Very nice block posts and your plant is growing so much!
ReplyDeleteHi Hanna! Your drawing of your baby is so good! I had such a fun time creating this project and feel like it would be a good thing to teach high school students to keep them engaged in the DNA process.
ReplyDeleteHello! I agree that the activities this week were very fun and engaging. I also think I will do the DNA model activity in my future classroom because it really helps with visualization.
