Week 4
1. What did I learn this week?
This week I learned about the 5E Instructional Method. The 5E consist of Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend, and Evaluate.
Engage - Promotes learners' curiosity about and interest in the topic of study.
Explore - Provides learners with common experiences related to phenomena or the topic of study.
Explain - Provides opportunities for learners to share their findings from the exploration phase and discuss their developing understanding of the Concept being studied.
Extend - Enable learners apply their new learning through additional activities and/or use it to answer new questions or solve innovative problems.
Evaluate - encourages others to self-assess their learning.
2. Are you able to relate what you learned to what you already knew?
Yes, I was able to take the information we learned about our fast plants, and connect it to prior knowledge. Our fast plant has already grown so much!
3. How can you apply what you've learned to your teaching in the future?
I can apply the 5E Instructional Methods in my future teaching. Each step includes something specific that the teachers can do to ensure students are meeting each of the five instructional methods.
Engage - Teacher should connect to the learners prior knowledge and understanding while introducing new learning experiences.
Explore - Teachers should offer the students enough time to relate to the topic or phenomena, try out new skills, or pose questions.
Explain - Teachers should directly introduce a concept, process, or skill.
Elaborate - teachers should challenge, deepen, or broaden the students prior knowledge.
Evaluate - teachers should evaluate students progress towards achieving desired learning goals.
hi Hanna, i really like the way you set up your blog! I also agree that the 5E model is something that can be used in the future classroom and what the roles of the teacher is for each section. Your caterpillars are cute!

ReplyDeleteHi Hanna! I likes how you included the categories of the 5E model, examples, and how you will apply them to your future teaching! It is so useful to think ahead about this framework!
