Week 14
Lab - This week in lab we watched "The Science of Climate Change" video, which discusses an abundance of climate change examples and explanations. Next we learned about the greenhouse effect and the way light reflects or gets absorbed throughout Earth. Lastly, we looked at a bunch of graphs and discovered that mostly every level is abnormal based on the past, and is increasing as significantly higher rates.
Lecture - This week in lecture we learned about the albedo effect. This explains the different ways the sun reflects or doesn't reflect off the earth. As the ice caps are melting, the albedo effect continues to melt more and more, eventually destroying both the north and south pole. This is known as a feedback loop, as when the ice melts, it reveals darker colors which attracts more and more sunlight, leading to more melting.
Press Book - This week in our press book, we read about climate change that is human-caused as since the rise of the industrial revolution, humans have relied more and more on fossil fuels for energy. This leads to a significant increase in greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide. Climate change includes much more than just changing in temperatures. It also includes more extreme weather events, the melting of sea ice, sea levels rising, and a disruption in our ecosystems.
