Week 11
Lab -
This week in lab we looked at 11 different vials of sand under the microscope. We were then tasked with determining wether the sand was developed under water, glacier, or wind based on its attributes. Our group thought most of the vials came from glacier, when really only a few were actually from glaciers.
Lecture - This week in lecture, we learned about buoyancy and water displacement. We started by placing different pop cans into a large fish tank, testing which ones sink or float. We then read a story, and discussed different densities of gold. We then underwent a series of test to decifer water displacement or our crowns.
Press Book-
This week in the press book, we read about the rock cycles. There are three different types of rocks, igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Igneous rocks are formed when magma cools and are the first type of rock. Sedimentary is when small particles are compacted over time. Fossils are usually found in sedimentary rock. Metamorphic rocks are formed under heat and pressure. When learning about geodes, we learned about archimedes principle. which describes the weight of the displaced liquid is equal to the weight of the object. A geode that is less dense will have more crystals inside. Lastly, we read about weathering, erosion, deposition. There are two types of weathering, mechanical ad chemical.
